N2  -  In recent years the scientific literature has dedicated much attention to contamination of environmental surfaces, which provide a reservoir for pathogens, especially MDR, and a potential source for transmission of several key health care-associated pathogens. At the same time the debate to identify the best interventions aimed to the infection control has increased. The following article focuses on the evolution of knowledge about the relationship between environmental surfaces and infection transmission. It briefly summarizes the different intervention possibilities, the traditional ones and the recently introduced, and in particular, it features characteristics and role of the new technologies where hydrogen peroxide is employed .
