N2 - Nosocomial infections have a relevant impact on health and on health care spending and imply very important clinical, ethic, medico-legal and organizative consequences. To transmit infections in a hospital, is necessary the co-presence of the three elements: the source of the infecting microorganisms, a sensitive host and a suitable transmission vehicle. Our survey analyzes the onset of hepatitis C and risk factors in two patients, previously negative for HCV virus, hospitalized at the Turin Cottolengo Hospital , and subjected to invasive procedures nephro-urological. In fact, the basic elements for the transmission of hepatitis C virus are present in our study, considering patients as susceptible host and the medical device as a possible vehicle of transmission, the source of microorganisms, instead, sometimes remains unrecognized. Recently the molecular techniques applied to the diagnosis and monitoring of HCV infection, have taken a prevalent role and allow the carry out of innovative investigations, including the genotyping of the virus. The genotyping of virus (HCV) has been fundamental to our epidemiological survey.
