N2  -  The urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most frequent healtcare associated infection (HAI). We describe an active  multidisciplinary project of implementation of a bundle for the prevention and management of the UTIs. This project involved the entire staff of the Medical Departments of Rimini Hospital and included four steps. 1. education and discussion of the bundle. 2. interventions to improve adherence to the bundle. 3. short term control. 4. long term control. We observed a reduction in the use of bladder catheter and in cultures of urinary specimens, in relation to the number of patient admitted, both in the short and long time period. The better use of catheterization and the decrease of the urinary cultures, as well as reducing the frequency of HAI, should also lead a reduction in the consumption of inappropriate antibiotics. We believe that the magnitude of the project, its multidisciplinary nature, the active implementation method and easily way to verify data, have produced substantial and long-lasting improvements in care practices.
