N2 - Infections with antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria have indisputably a major impact on morbidity and mortality. However, to quantify the exact economic impact attributable to such infections remains a methodological challenge, as multifaceted and difficult to capture in its entirety. The review of the literature on the economic impact of infections caused by antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria shows an indisputable economic burden in all areas tested. Unfortunately, the lack of comparability of methods and results does not allow to draw more detailed conclusions. It appears a need for greater collaboration between health economy and clinical research in order to develop guidelines for accessible and reproducible processing methodology characterized by economic studies, and therefore, the results are comparable and interpretable.
