N2 - The improvement of patients safety is a priority in modern Healthcare Systems. Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) are a relevant risk for patients and they can cause adverse events. Nevertheless, the surveillance of HAIs is usually dealt with as an activity unconnected from clinical risk management, without any attempt of integration. This document illustrates some Italian organizational models supporting the integration between HAI surveillance and control and clinical risk management. According to the models we examined, the staff appointed to survey and control HAIs should contribute to patient safety plans. Patient safety plans are usually developed by multidisciplinary groups, describe primary actions to provide safe care and include projects for the surveillance and control of HAI, based on local and regional priorities.
